A HIGH SEAS ADVENTURE IN SEARCH OF GOOD CHARACTER!
Set Sail in Search of Good Character Traits!
GOOD CHARACTER TRAITS MATTER!
A Character Education Development Specialist, Steve is certified by CHARACTER COUNTS! Character Counts is the most widely implemented approach to character education in the country. It is embraced by thousands of schools, communities, public agencies and nonprofits. Character Counts! is an educational framework for teaching universal values. It transcends politics, religion, and cultural differences.
BOOKS KEEP THE SHIP ON COURSE!
Using acclaimed books from the school library and the Set Sail Reading List, Captain Steve will introduce the students to good character traits! Some of the books include: Treasure, by Suzanne Bloom, Caldecott Medal Winner: Flotsam, by David Wiesner, The Empty Pot, by Demi, Treasure Island, by Robert Louis and the popular Yes Day!, by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
Throughout the wonderful mix of audience interaction and surprising illusions Steve identifies some words and concepts from the Set Sail Vocabulary List. The words are presented carefully in context and defined so the boys and girls will have good reason to remember them. Teachers may find it useful to include some of the words as bonus vocabulary words, spelling words or words woven into lesson plans in the future.
STEVE IS THE CAPTAIN AT THE WHEEL!
Steve, while playing the role of ship Captain, is really the Amazing Teacher in disguise. All through his 45-50 minute presentation, the students will enjoy magic tricks, drama, puppets, surprises like a cute bunny named “Hopper” and a treasure trunk full of books and stories.
Special guest, Tucker Turtle (a puppet) interrupts the show searching for a letter, only to discover something even more valuable. Character is who we are on the inside. It is how we act when we think no one is watching. Along with Tucker, the students learn that good character is the real treasure in life.
GOOD CHARACTER TRAITS ARE VALUABLE EVERY DAY!
Based on strategic learning objectives in character education, the students will be challenged to:
Discover how to live responsible lives each day
Recognize the importance of listening to others
Consider the rewards of being honest
Discover three signs of citizenship at home and school
Use their imagination as a tool for adventure
Read for learning, enjoyment, personal growth and just for fun
DROP YOUR FISHING LINE PORT SIDE!
By the end of the program, boys and girls find out that down in the depths there is an outstanding benefit to HAVING good character—FRIENDSHIP!
As with all the Amazing Teacher programs, Steve makes reading, learning, entertainment and fun— a memorable, life-changing catch.
